Bone Cancer: From Molecular Mechanisms to Therapies

Participating journal: Discover Oncology

Bone cancers develop when cells within a bone divide uncontrollably, forming a lump or mass of abnormal tissue. Bone cancers can affect any bone in the body and develop in any part of the bone. A growing bone cancer destroys healthy tissue and weakens bone, making it more vulnerable to fracture. Primary bone cancers including osteosarcoma, chondrosarcoma and Ewing's sarcoma actually begins in bone. The secondary bone cancers also called cancer metastasis to bone begins somewhere else in the body and then metastasizes or spreads to bone, the breast, lung, prostate and thyroid cancer are commonly spread to bone. There is no cure for bone cancers. It is therefore crucial that we continue to research the pathogenesis of bone cancers and seek novel modes of therapy. We invite researchers to submit original research and review articles covering significant developments in the pathogenesis of bone cancers, as well as novel medicines or strategies that hold promise in the prevention and/or treatment of this disease. In particular, we welcome research covering novel signaling pathways, signaling molecules, or bone cancers medications under development.
