As infrastructures become increasingly complex and interconnected, effectively assessing and enhancing resilience is vital to protecting them against a wide array of hazards and threats. This Topical Collection delves on two main aspects in the resilience domain:
- The methodological development of resilience assessment, from conceptual frameworks to advanced modelling approaches.
- The metrics for resilience evaluation and the development of quantitative tools that support decision-making in critical infrastructure systems.
This Topical Collection stems from the papers presented at the 63rd ESREDA Seminar, and welcomes relevant submissions that address resilience assessment methodologies and their application to infrastructures exposed to technological, natural, man-made or hybrid attacks. Contributions are encouraged across a variety of infrastructure sectors:
• Energy systems (electricity, gas, hydrogen).
• Transport networks (rail, road, air, and maritime).
• Critical infrastructures such as water, communication, and healthcare networks.
• Urban development and planning.
• Public sector and governmental entities.
Papers that examine the interdependencies between infrastructures and the cascading effects of disruptions are also highly relevant. Contributions aim to develop quantitative approaches to resilience assessment, particularly in support of management decisions related to investment, maintenance, and system optimization under influence of uncertainty. The goal is to enhance system robustness and adaptability, ensuring both operational continuity and swift recovery from disruptions.
By advancing both methodological approaches and quantitative tools for decision-making, this Topical Collection seeks to deepen our understanding of resilience in complex infrastructure systems, fostering their robustness and long-term sustainability in response to current and emerging challenges.
Deadline for submissions: January 31, 2025
