School is a social institution, and, with it, the world of education represents an integral and fundamental part of society. In recent years we have been witnessing a radical transformation of the educational dimension that impacts curricular content, teaching methodologies and, even more, environments and technological tools to promote or enhance student learning. School is changing, what will be the future of school learning? The strong scientific interest on these topics is encouraging psychological sciences to study the transformations in the field of personal development related to school learning, trying to understand and discover how modern technological systems and new teaching methodologies are transforming the cognitive, emotional and social processes connected to learning. This transformation process, which emerged together with the rapid technological progress of recent years, has led to further research questions regarding how modern artificial intelligence tools, augmented and virtual reality, or systems based on tangible interfaces, will integrate into school learning. At the same time, psychology try to understand how these same technological tools can enhance the learning and education processes of students with special educational needs, disabilities and/or specific learning disorders.
Psychological sciences, in fact, will have the duty to design, study and experiment with innovative learning models that, using modern technologies, will be able to offer widely inclusive educational opportunities.
In this special volume, therefore, we want to collect studies and research that investigate the psychological processes involved in the field of development in relation to the transformation that technology is bringing to the world of school and learning, and how these psychological processes can have repercussions in the relational, emotional and cognitive fields.
