Carbon Neutrality and Sustainable Development

Participating journal: Discover Sustainability

In recent years, environmental protection and sustainable development are no longer a national or regional issue, but a shared global responsibility. The realization of carbon neutrality through gradually decreasing urban carbon emissions is an important approach to achieve 1.5 ℃ climate goals of the Paris Agreement. Most carbon emissions come from fossil fuels energy consumption, especially for these development cities. The city carbon emission contributed 60–80%, which including energy, building, transport and industry sector. This topical collection attractive focuses on the sustainable development of the ecological environment, mainly focusing on the field of environmentally sustainable development such as the utilization of solid waste resources, ecological environment restoration, and carbon neutrality. The main objective of the current Topical Collection is to present the results of studies that use a novel approach to environmental protection and sustainable development, including utilization of solid waste resources, ecological environment restoration, and carbon neutrality.

Keywords: Carbon neutrality; Sustainable development; Carbon footprint; Emission reduction potential; Energy structure adjustment
