Energy Metal Systems of the Colorado Plateau

Participating journal: Mining, Metallurgy & Exploration
The Colorado Plateau region hosts world-class deposits of uranium and vanadium and smaller occurrences of copper, manganese, and other metals crucial to the green energy transition. These represent a significant portion of domestic energy metal resources in the USA, but most have not been studied systematically or in detail since the 1980s. Synthesizing past research with new insights derived from a new study of the geology and paleofluid history of the region, this Special Collection presents an up-to-date look at the Colorado Plateau’s energy metal resources and related geological systems.

    Isabel F. Barton, Ph.D.

Isabel Barton is an assistant professor of mining and geological engineering at the University of Arizona. Her research focuses mainly on geometallurgy but spans the range from ore deposits geology to extractive metallurgy, with emphasis on energy metals. She also enjoys studying the history of geology, metallurgy, and mining.
  • Mark D. Barton, Ph.D.

Mark Barton is a professor of geology at the University of Arizona and director of the Lowell Institute for Mineral Resources. An expert in economic geology, he researches ore deposits and related geochemical systems around the world.
