Digital Inclusive Education

Participating journal: Discover Education

The emergence of digital inclusive education allows educational researchers and practitioners to accelerate innovating technological interventions that can ensure inclusive learning environments. Inclusive Digital Education is considered a digital teaching and learning transformation process that goes far beyond applying suitably designed digital technologies in education; it develops sustainable and inclusive teaching and learning ecologies. Inclusive digital education involves all education system levels – from the individual to the educational institution to the regional or national level of the education system. As such, digital transformation aims to develop digital ecosystems that support teaching and student support. The development of a digital ecosystem occurs in three dimensions, i.e. digitisation, digital pedagogy and digital competencies. Developing an inclusive digital ecosystem is ongoing and requires innovative and creative mechanisms to ensure equity, access, and inclusion in education.

Therefore, in this Topical Collection, we ask the question: How can digital technologies foster an integrated approach toward inclusive digital transformation in early childhood education and care, primary, adult, technical and vocational, secondary, and higher education to enable sustainable, supportive digital inclusive teaching and learning environments and ecosystems?

Therefore, the Topical Collection aims to present evidence-based research on digital technologies (such as but not limited to Open Education Resources (OERs), Assistive Devices (AT), Artificial Intelligence (AI), Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCs), Blended Learning (BL), Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs), Computer-based Instructions (CBIs)and Technology Enhanced Learning (TEL)) that foster an integrated approach toward digital transformation that enables sustainable digital inclusive teaching and learning environments and ecosystems at various education levels. The papers may present new, innovative ideas and practices but also highlight inclusive digital ecology's challenges, opportunities, and benefits. This can be focused on inclusive teaching strategies and approaches, inclusive assessment practices, inclusive support strategies, inclusive rural-urban ecologies, inclusive policies and legislation.
