Definition
Accessibility in Games: The practice of making your games playable by gamers with disabilities. This practice also serves gamers with context-dependent access issues such as slow network connections, playing in over- or underlighted environments, playing in loud environments, language barriers, temporary injuries, etc.
Introduction
With such a wide variety of genres and platforms, video games are often branded as having something for everyone (Newman 2013). At face value, this is accurate; however, when we take a closer look at accessibility, this is not always true. As Zahand (2018) puts it: “For most of the games industry, accessibility in video games is a low priority. One reason is because of a lack of awareness among developers about accessibility issues-developers who are not disabled might not be aware of the ways that they can make a title more accessible to people with disabilities or impairments.”
